It’s a request that’s almost as old as Twitter: the ability to edit a tweet, for example, to correct a misspelling. For now, users have the only option to delete their post in case of an error. But that will soon change. In the spring, the company announced the arrival of a tweet modification feature, before mentioning the first tests for September. He kept his word, in a few hours.
This Thursday, September 29, the official Twitter Blue account (named after Twitter’s paid service) published the first modified tweet in the history of the social network. “Hello, this is a test to make sure the edit button works, we will keep you informed of the rest”, announce the platform teams.
When the tweet appears in the Twitter feed, it will be accompanied by a pencil icon and the words “last edited in” to indicate that the tweet has already been edited. As is the case with Facebook – which has allowed users to modify their publications for years – Internet users have access to the history message versions.
During this testing phase, tweets can be edited multiple times, but only within 30 minutes of posting. A limit that is intended to prevent widely transmitted messages from being modified to change their meaning.
For the time being, only subscribers to the Twitter Blue offer, not available in France, will be able to take advantage of it. Such tweets, however, could multiply in the coming days, coming from abroad. However, Twitter has not yet communicated a deadline for its deployment to all users of the social network.
