Shadow will turn your internet browser into a powerful PC

Cloud computing specialist, Shadow introduced Shadow PC in Browser, a feature that allows you to enjoy a powerful PC using any browser, even on an old device.

Since the acquisition in 2021 by Octave Klaba, Shadow has been attempting a renaissance based on a somewhat new philosophy, but above all more solid in its supports. The total expansion is over, the old startup specialized in virtual computers in the Cloud and known as Blade has just expanded its re-expansion to 14 countries, 12 Europeans plus the United States and Canada.

From now on, there is a desire within the company to talk about European sovereignty and security even more than before, particularly with the passage under the Synfonium umbrella of brothers Octave and Miroslav Klaba, the giant created to compete with Google by offering a browser (Qwant), cloud computing (Shadow) and secure storage (Shadow Drive). But that doesn’t stop us from perfecting a product that’s still a little ahead of its time.

Democratize access to responsible and efficient technology

And this is perhaps one of the reasons for the step-by-step progress in the last two years. “Our mission has always been to seek to democratize access to responsible and efficient digital technology, both for professionals and the general public,” says Éric Sèle, CEO of Shadow. “Because gamers aren’t the only ones drawn to a powerful, high-performance PC. Professional creators and businesses are, too.” And he knows that Shadow can also meet his needs and requirements.

Above all, he wants to get rid of the long-standing tag attached to the back of Shadow’s “for gamers” service. It’s not just that, although taking advantage of the possibilities of a very powerful computer, with a good graphics card and now the storage increased to 512 GB, all even on a 10-year-old PC, actually necessarily dreams a lot.

So the announcements of the day are logically dedicated to the largest number, the general public and companies. With its eight data centers spread equally across Europe and the United States, the Parisian company is launching a new function that will delight more than one: the possibility of accessing your virtual PC from a browser, “whatever it is”, we specified in Shadow. Under Google Chrome like Safari, Microsoft Edge or Qwant, on a PC, a MacBook, an Android smartphone or tablet, all the necessary content and power will be accessible.

So here’s Shadow PC in the browser, which should make the offer even easier to use. “We have a historic promise that Shadow is compatible with all media possible, but also with Logitech’s G Cloud console, Meta headsets or even a Rasperry Pi,” explains Jérôme Arnac, Shadow’s chief revenue officer.

The ability to access Shadow PC from a simple URL, without worrying about the quality or age of the hardware, is a small innovation for anyone who wants to play games, work on somewhat demanding software, or simply access their files from any device with access. . to a browser, including consoles, televisions, or vehicles. Only a good internet connection is essential and, of course, a Shadow subscription that now starts at 32.99 euros/month for the basic configuration, but more than enough for many.

Test games from the browser

Shadow PC in Browser will thus offer a lighter version of the application, with the essential functionalities so that everything is accessible just by logging in. Determined to seduce professionals, the company obviously emphasizes the secure aspect and flexibility. There is no need to install anything, so there is no need for administrator authorization to view your virtual PC from anywhere or run the software installed there.

And the company knows how to seduce its other partners in the video game industry by pulling another interesting feature out of this feature: Virtual Booth, which allows you to offer online video game demo sessions from your browser, with the ability to set up your virtual booth ( game time, information to enter for the player, sharing on social networks, etc.). Shadow highlights the ability to play up to 100,000 players simultaneously in the cloud to build a bit of excitement around a game, while collecting data on what’s working and what’s not, the types of players who liked or didn’t like the game, game, sequences, etc.

A promise to play from a browser attempted by Google Stadia at the time and allowed by Nvidia GeForce Now. At Shadow, we don’t want to support comparison or potential competition. This is not about positioning yourself as a potential gamer, but if others want to use technology to do so…

Shadow PC in Browser will begin rolling out and will be available to all subscribers in Early Access in July.
