Is Mark Zuckerberg’s world conquest in danger? To compete with Elon Musk’s Twitter, Meta must launch a new social network, Threads. This new application is expected from this Thursday in the United States and on Friday in several other countries.
But according to information from the Irish media Independent, the launch of Threads could be compromised in the Old Continent. The social network would not respect the regulations on the protection of private data within the European Union, still framed by the GDPR.
According to several screenshots posted on Twitter, the Threads app plans to collect a large amount of personal data in order to link it to a user’s account. Among them are: health information, bank details, browsing history, purchases made, location, contact list or even “sensitive information”, specifies the application.
Therefore, if it is already available in the app stores in the United States and in other countries, the Threads page is not yet in France, Tech&Co found. And the wait could be long before Europe can benefit from this new alternative to Twitter.
Get hold of Twitter codes
However, this new application wants to compete with the social network bought by Elon Musk. Threads thus uses the well-known codes of users of the blue bird social network: a news feed where text messages are linked with the possibility of adding photos and videos, “likes”, “comments” and “reposts” and a limit of characters.
In addition to the operation, the new application of the Meta group relies heavily on Twitter to define its name or logo. The term “Threads” means “threads” and refers to the series of tweets that a Twitter user posts in a row to better organize their comments.
As for the logo, it is a stylized white at sign on a black background. Once again, the inspiration came from the competition. On Twitter, the at sign is placed in front of a user’s unique name, allowing them to be identified within a post.
Threads’ interest will be above all your connection with instagram account User ID During registration, it will be possible to log in with your Instagram username and retrieve your contacts. Blue checkmarks will also be present and identify certified platform accounts.
