Five Frenchmen die in a traffic accident in Togo

A car accident took place in a town in Togo, in Tchébébé, leaving five dead and several injured.

Five French people, including four from Bouches-du-Rhône, aged between 70 and 75, died on Tuesday in a traffic accident in Togo, the charity responsible for the trip announced this Wednesday, October 22.

Among the victims, three are from La Ciotat, stated the secretary of the city’s Lions Clubs. From Togo, they were to go to neighboring Benin to inaugurate a maternity hospital financed by the association, he said, when the bus carrying the travelers “fell into the ditch” due to “a flat tire.”

The government of Togo confirmed in a statement the death of five people and reported eight injuries in a “serious traffic accident” on Tuesday in Yomaboua, in the center of the country.

An open investigation

“According to the first conclusions, the situation was due to the explosion of the front tire of a passenger transport minibus, which caused the loss of control. The vehicle overturned under the Yomaboua River bridge,” explains the Togolese Ministry of Security.

An investigation was opened to “establish the exact causes of this tragedy,” the ministry added.
