This July 7, on the other side of the Atlantic, the boss of Facebook and now Threads, woke up in a good mood: the number of subscribers to the new social network continues to rise and currently has 30 million users.
“Wow, 30 million records this morning. It’s the start of something special, but we still have a lot of work to do to develop the app,” Mark Zuckerberg posted on his Threads account.
Everything went very quickly for the app launched on the night of Wednesday, July 5-6. A few hours ago, Threads had 10 million users. The new competitor of Twitter, it is presented as the text version of Instagram. Threads thus uses the codes well known to Twitter users: a news feed with scrolling text messages, the ability to add photos and videos, as well as “like”, “comment” and “forward” buttons and a character limit.
Success through the chaos of Twitter
Please note that the app is not yet officially available in France. Meta (Threads parent company) wants to take the time to comply with the European texts: DSA and DMA that establish new rules to be followed by platforms.
However, it is possible to download it by following some tips, in particular by creating a US Apple account if you have an iPhone.
Twitter’s recent setbacks, which temporarily limited the visibility of the number of tweets: 1,000 tweets for regular users and 10,000 tweets for paying subscribers, created an unexpected window of opportunity for Threads. Whether the promise made by the new social network will satisfy disappointed Twitter users remains to be seen.
