Just launched, Mark Zuckerberg’s new fashion social network could be nipped in the bud by Elon Musk. Twitter threatens to sue Meta. In question, the launch of Threads, the new social network of the group -owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp- clearly designed to compete with Twitter.
Less than a day after its launch, Mark Zuckerberg’s new platform already has more than 30 million users. And it didn’t take long for a Twitter lawyer to send Mark Zuckerberg a threatening email, according to the US media Semafor.
Twitter in particular accuses its competitor of having recruited dozens of its former employees (among the thousands fired by Elon Musk since his arrival at the head of the platform), according to extracts cited by Semafor. Employees who “have and continue to have access to Twitter trade secrets and other highly confidential information,” according to the attorney.
Former contract employees?
Also according to the lawyer, Meta would have put these employees in charge of the development of Threads “specifically for them to use the trade secrets” at the center of the dispute, “to speed up the development of Meta’s competing application.” . The social network threatens to take legal action “to prevent Meta from retaining, disclosing or using its intellectual property further.”
Baseless accusations, according to a source from the Facebook group quoted by Semafor: “Nobody on the team that designed Threads is a former Twitter employee. It doesn’t exist.”
On Twitter, Elon Musk commented: “Competition is good, cheating is not.” The storied rivalry between the two billionaires has recently taken on new life: the two business leaders have even planned to host a cage match. A rivalry in sports, for domination of the networks… and perhaps soon in the courts.
