After the soaps we cut, the hydraulic presses, the cleaning videos or even the “slime”, that very malleable sticky paste, the so-called “satisfying” videos have a new focus: glass bottles that break.
In fact, on TikTok, many videos show people throwing bottles, jars, and any other glass containers from the top of a marble staircase in the hope of seeing them break at the bottom of a few steps. It almost became a challenge: guess from how many steps the object will break.
This type of video thus combines both the phenomenon of so-called “satisfying” videos, sequences that can be watched without stopping; and the ASMR one, videos where sound is very important, here with the sound of a glass rolling and hitting the ground.
300 million views
The first video of this type dates from the end of June 2023 and shows a jar of olives, a bottle of beer and a bottle full of “orbeez”, these colored balls that swell on contact with water. Beyond its appreciable content according to the sensitivity of each one, the video accumulates about 300 million views on TikTok. In total, the account behind the first video generated over 500 million views and 32 million likes on just 12 videos.
Since then, many accounts have tried to reproduce the “Bottles on Stairs” phenomenon, with varying degrees of success. Please note that TikTok places the following warning message on some videos: “By participating in this activity, you risk harming yourself or others.”
But the element that often worries netizens is the desire to waste so much food and drink, while others wonder who cleans up after making such videos.
