At least four people have died in the last six months in Alabama (USA) after attempting a dangerous challenge. The “boat challenge” involves jumping from a boat at high speed, while of course filming the jump.
Except that at high speed, the water quickly becomes rock hard. “They literally broke their necks,” Jim Dennis of the City of Childersburg Rescue Team told NBC, pointing to a “TikTok challenge.”
“You can end up with broken bones, a broken neck, or you can end up hitting the propeller of your own boat,” said Gail Kulp, director of the Sea Tow Foundation, which fights boating accidents.
This challenge is not new, but the resurgence of deaths has prompted authorities to warn of its risks. For its part, TikTok ensures that this is not a trend on the social network, even videos of this type are still accessible on the platform.
The warning also applies to diving. Every year there are several drowning deaths, especially with the arrival of good weather.
