“The impression of seeing my mother…”. This is a discourse that we hear a lot, right now, on TikTok. The reason? The “Aged” filter, which digitally ages users. Already used in over 5.5 million videos, the filter has a particularly realistic (and slightly disturbing) effect. It shows the user how she would look like around 70 years old.
The effect is so striking that it sometimes makes some people cry, who see the faces of their parents or grandparents, sometimes lost. Videos with the keyword “old filter” have been viewed by more than 60 million people.
“I’ll go back to 75 to see if it was true,” says this user.
Artificial intelligence
TikTok filters are becoming more realistic, especially when they use artificial intelligence. Thanks to the latter, these filters do not use 3D technology but a generative network that allows them to “blend” directly with the face. Thanks to these new systems, the filter evolves harmoniously with the user’s face, giving a particularly natural appearance.
This is particularly the case with the “Bold Glamour” filter, which modified the face to apply beauty criteria identical to those of cosmetic surgery. A filter that has been widely criticized for the risk of triggering -especially in young users- complexes or even, in the most serious cases, dysmorphophobia.
Another filter, “Teenage Look”, the opposite of “aged”, allows you to look younger. particularly moving, it was also very successful.
