What if you had to run away from dating apps to find true love? This is what a new study published in June suggests. By interviewing Tinder users, the researchers (including a psychology professor at the University of Amiens) found that many of them were already in relationships.
Of the nearly 1,400 people who filled out the study questionnaire, 65.3% of people said they were married or in a relationship. But the shame of the dating app is that half of the users don’t want to meet the men and women they meet on Tinder. Only 50.3% of users are inclined to accept face-to-face appointments.
These figures weigh on the satisfaction of people using dating apps. This is the point that the authors tried to study. Study participants, ages 18 to 74, were asked about their motivations for browsing Tinder. The questions also related to their number of meetings or appointments, as well as their self-esteem or loneliness.
Apps to use with caution
It shows that the satisfaction of using Tinder is 2.39 out of 5, while the satisfaction of real encounters made through the application is 3.05 out of 5.
According to another author of the study, clinical psychology professor Elias Aboujaoude, dating networks should be used with more caution and selectivity. He finds that many of his patients have given up on dating apps after spending too much time on them without success.
To avoid this tricky effect, Tinder introduced a new option late last year. In the application, it is now possible to directly indicate your intentions explicitly. Thus, users can specify whether they want serious, long-term relationships, one-night stands, or just friendly interactions.
