Rain, ocean, dark noise: How to find available white noises on iPhone?

To focus or sleep better, Apple smartphones have been offering white noise for several years, hidden in the device’s features.

Isolating yourself from the world can sometimes be necessary for some people and white noise is a good solution to achieve this. This type of noise allows, among other things, to mask environmental noise thanks to the addition of sound frequencies.

Some playlists already exist on streaming platforms or on the internet. A white noise piece, for example, has surpassed a billion streams on Spotify. But a basic feature of the iPhone provides similar relaxing sounds.

Hidden in accessibility-related parameters such as noise detection, white noises are freely available and allow you to hear six different types of sounds: so-called “balanced”, “light” or “dark” noises, the ocean , rain or a stream.

And unlike regular playlists, iPhone white noises are used as background sounds. Thus, it is possible to activate playback while doing another activity, even if it requires the use of audio.

To enable white noise on iPhone

  1. Go to settings and then tab “Accessibility”
  2. scroll to “Audiovisual”
  3. Check toggle button “Background Sounds”
  4. Set the type of noise and its volume

You can also choose in this tab if you want to use white noise even while listening to other media or if your iPhone is locked.

To have easier access to background noises, it is also possible to put a shortcut in the control center, present by swiping the upper right corner of the device.

  1. In settings, go to “Control center”
  2. include command “Audience”
  3. Sliding the upper right corner, click the icon with an ear
  4. Click on “background sounds”

So using your smartphone to focus or calm down is not necessarily impossible anymore. It should be noted, however, that the efficacy of white noise on sleep has not yet been demonstrated with certainty, since studies have not reached any consensus on the impact of these noises on improving sleep quality and the benefits that are promoted are usually based on testimonials from followers.
