Data storage problem, bug or economic news? The social network Twitter (renamed X for Elon Musk) has cleaned up the old tweets on the platform. For a few hours, many images posted online before 2014 by netizens have been inaccessible.
Several years of multimedia content (excluding videos, which only arrived on the social network in 2016, compared to 2011 for photos) seem to have partly disappeared from the platform, as several netizens have pointed out, quite annoyed by this new malfunction. .
No response from Twitter
This is how a part of the global internet has evaporated, and with it some essential tweets, such as the famous selfie of Ellen de Generes at the 2014 Oscars with a panoply of American actors.
Counted for a long time as the most retweeted tweet on the social network with almost 3 million shares, the selfie was nevertheless restored a few hours later due to the discontent of Internet users.
No indication has been given about the origin of this new problem, neither by the Twitter services nor by Elon Musk. Deux explanations are toutefois envisagées: it’s a simple bug technique, as it arrives regularly on the social network after the plusieurs mois, I’m a choix from the part of the teams to remove the “vieux” content and release from the place on the servers and faire economies.
Now, some tweets posted before 2014 show links that are now unclickable, starting with “bit.ly” or “t.co,” as Tech&Co has seen.
This is not the first time that a technical problem concerns the display of images and links on the platform. Last March, all image types were temporarily unavailable on the platform.
Since Elon Musk’s arrival at the helm of the social network in October 2022, a dozen bugs have affected the platform in many ways: tweet rationing, the disappearance of profiles or posts, or even the appearance of private messages to all users. For now, there is no reason to say that the millions of deleted images will return.
