Stock settlement in progress at Netflix. Not from the streaming platform’s catalog, but from DVDs, which the company has rented to its customers since its inception in 1997. Because before becoming a streaming giant in the early 2010s, Netflix’s mission was to deliver DVDs. , bought or rented, at home.
But after 25 years of good, loyal service and 5.2 billion DVDs shipped, the company announced last April that it was ending this system, which has become more discreet with the rise of streaming as we hear it now.
10 additional DVDs to collect
Even so, in 2019, 2.7 million people continued to place orders on the platform, which allowed the service to remain profitable (212 million dollars in profits in 2018).
However, the end of the service is registered for the end of September, but do not panic for those who have not returned the borrowed movies and series: Netflix has just announced that unreturned discs will no longer be billed after September 29 .
And as a bonus, Netflix has also decided to offer an additional 10 DVDs to select customers, via a raffle through the site, which at the moment seems inaccessible.
A way to liquidate the remaining discs, although it is always possible to return them if a client really does not want them. In fact, Netflix has specified that users have until October 27 to return their rented DVDs.
