It only took a few seconds on the screen for the crowd to react. During the grand final of the Valorant video game world championship, Elon Musk attended the victory of the Evil Genius structure against Paper Rex. But his presence was not liked by the viewers of the Valorant champions 2023.
On the big screens at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles it was hard to make out the owner of Twitter (renamed X) due to the low light. But the image broadcast for a very short time generated a general anger in the room. Beyond the boos, it’s in the heart that viewers chanted “Bring back Twitter!” (“Tear Twitter apart!”, in French).
An unpopular name change
The public’s reaction was noted even by match commentators. Someone even said, “Where does this come from? It can’t come from here,” Business Insider notes. To bring attention back to the game, the other suggested that the reactions were related to the tenth point scored by Team Evil Genius.
Public boos underscored the unpopularity of Twitter’s July name change. Now renamed X, the social network should become a multipurpose application. This is at least what Elon Musk had planned even before formalizing the acquisition of the company in October 2022.
In less than a year, Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter caused the company’s valuation to fall in half, by the billionaire’s own admission. This is due to a leak from advertisers on the social network after the acquisition of the application by the businessman.
