Removing the Navigo pass from your bag to open the subway doors should no longer be mandatory from 2024. According to information from L’informé, Apple and IDF Mobilités have finally agreed to allow an iPhone to validate your ticket, regardless of the means of transport used.
Announced several years ago and postponed several times, this innovation ran into legal obstacles, in particular from the prefect of Île-de-France, who filed an appeal with the administrative court, regretting that Apple did not fully comply with French law. .
Directly in the “Maps” application
But Apple apparently decided to comply with the region’s demands, which allowed the appeal to be withdrawn and the agreement concluded between the brand and IDF Mobilités, the Ile-de-France transport management entity.
Thus, thanks to NFC technology, which allows you to simply swipe the pass through your phone to recognize it, Apple smartphones can be used to unlock the doors and validate the ticket, anywhere in the region.
The L’informé medium also specifies that a dematerialized Navigo pass can be downloaded directly into the Cards application, which includes bank cards and user loyalty cards.
However, validating your Navigo pass with a smartphone is nothing new. Since October 2022, owners of Android smartphones can already perform this manipulation on their daily trips.
However, Apple already left the possibility, like Android, of recharging your Navigo card directly through your smartphone and without going through the terminals provided for this purpose, through the SNCF Connect or IDF Mobilités applications.
