Twitter will try to make its context “Notes” more reliable

This Monday, August 28, an update was made on the operation of the “Community Notes” of the social network. The goal is to prevent one message from appearing and then being replaced by another.

Avoid going back and forth between your “Community Notes”, this is the goal of Twitter (renamed X). This Monday, August 28, the social network updated the algorithm that regulates the display of messages by giving context or correcting certain publications. The announcement was made in the app by the @CommunityNotes account.

These settings are intended to prevent a “Note” from appearing at first and then being replaced by another. The main consequence will be to reduce the display of these messages at first. With the aim that once visible, a context remains forever, with greater reliability.

More reformulation

The post announcing the update, dubbed “under the hood,” links to the Github page of the project led by Jay Baxter. Details technical fixes that should make the display of a “Community Note” more restrictive.

In this way, the level of evaluation that causes the display of a message has been revised upwards. The device should also do further reformulation to get clearer contextualizations.

However, several responses to the ad point to a paradox. By raising the display criteria, users believe that “Notes” will be less visible, making the device less effective.

At the same time, the function has been used for several weeks to discredit political speeches, with texts sometimes accused of militants. Therefore, the social network still has to adjust the cursor before reaching its goal of self-regulation, inspired by the Wikipedia model.
