If you want to follow the latest news from Rennes 2 University, you will no longer have to resort to Twitter (renamed X), but to other social networks. On August 31, the establishment published a message announcing the “sleeping position” of his account. In question, the acquisition of the platform by Elon Musk, but, above all, the different orientations that were subsequently decided.
“Contrary to the values of our establishment”
In its message, Rennes 2 University regrets several decisions made by the company. Among them, Twitter’s withdrawal from the European code of conduct against disinformation last May, as well as the platform’s desire to remove the blocking feature as it currently exists.
Also in its message, the establishment mentions its fears regarding cyberbullying after the –potential– disappearance of the blocking function. Twitter, for its part, tried to calm down by evoking an evolution of its “Mute” function, which could take over certain elements of the blocking that currently allows Internet users to be deprived of access to their publications.
This decision comes a few days after the implementation of the DSA, a European regulation of digital platforms that is supposed to force the latter (among others) to better fight online hate. On the other hand, the DSA does not mandate the implementation of a blocking function, which Twitter could well abandon if Elon Musk wanted to.
