Home audio specialist, Sonos is now taking off with success. In 2019, the American brand launched the Move, its first battery-powered speaker and also equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, a first for a manufacturer linked to the WiFi connection between its devices.
Launched in 2021, the Roam, a scaled-down version of the Move, also showcased Sonos’s ambitions in the portable and nomadic speaker market, up against JBL, Ultimate Ears, Bose and other Sony.
And Sonos is back with a new version of the Move, improving on many of the strengths of its outdoor-ready portable speaker.
One speaker is enough to listen in stereo
The Move 2 resembles its predecessor with its large rounded size and features the same dimensions (24.1cm H x 16cm W x 12.7cm D). It arrives in a new olive green color already seen on Roam (in addition to the initial black and white).
On the back, there is a new USB-C port that will allow you to charge the device, but also to recharge a smartphone or any other compatible product thanks to the large integrated battery (up to 24 hours of duration). ). A USB-C auxiliary cable adapter will also allow you to connect turntables or other devices to the speaker.
The novelty also comes from within with a new architecture that will recall the efforts put into the new Era range and in particular when making the small Era 100 stereo. The Sonos Move 2 stands between this and the power of the Era 300, less compatibility with Dolby Atmos. Now it offers stereo sound thanks to the two integrated tweeters that will allow a wide audio spectrum, with deep bass, even outdoors. It is possible to pair two of them or add the Move 2 to a Sonos home audio system (Home Cinema, sound bar, solo speaker…).
The speaker also retains its Trueplay calibration system, which allows you to automatically adjust and optimize sound quality between listening indoors and outdoors, in the garden or on the beach with friends. It also has IP56 certification to resist splashes, rain, sun or dust.
A device designed to last a long time
It’s not just the internal architecture that the Move 2 drew inspiration from the Era range. For touch controls on the top also with more precise touch buttons (capacitive touch slider for volume, playback, forward or back), but also a physical control button on the back to mute the microphone. Because Sonos has re-integrated voice control via Amazon Alexa or through the Sonos home voice assistant.
The premium speaker also supports Apple AirPlay2 in addition to its WiFi and Bluetooth connections. It is also possible to control it from the Sonos application and enjoy Sonos Radio (more than 1000 stations from around the world, 100 streaming audio services…).
Please note that the notion of sustainability has become a key element at Sonos. The Era range has ushered in a new era of energy reduction and the Move 2 also takes inspiration from it with the ability to go into standby mode when idle and reduce your power consumption by 40%. Its packaging has also been designed entirely with responsible, sustainable and recyclable materials.
