The arrival of USB-C to the iPhone could convert Android users, according to a study

Android phone owners have recognized that the end of proprietary iPhone cables expected in upcoming models could push them to buy an Apple device.

On September 12, Apple will present its future iPhone 15. Among the expected novelties, the manufacturer’s devices should abandon their proprietary cables. Instead, they will adopt a universal USB-C charger.

Beyond adapting the phones to future European regulations, this change could become an opportunity to welcome new customers. According to a study by online retailer SellCell, Android phone owners would be willing to adopt an iPhone if it includes a USB-C port.

The iPhone Pro also excited

The survey was conducted among 1,000 people with an Android device. Among them, 44% believe that the advent of connectivity motivates them to take an iPhone 15 with them when they change phones.

Most of those surveyed appreciate the fact that this change allows charging via a cable that is not certified by Apple. However, only 34% of Android phone owners intend to buy an iPhone 15.

But the SellCell study also shows enthusiasm among people who already own an iPhone. This time, 62% of them (out of 1,000 respondents) feel motivated to move to iPhone 15 thanks to the arrival of USB-C. 66% also intend to acquire it.

As for the reasons, users applaud the possibility of recharging an iPhone, an iPad or a Mac using a single and unique charger. Since the launch of the latest iPads at the end of 2020, Apple tablets have a USB-C port. This was already the case with Macs that have been using Thunderbolt technology for several years to integrate “multipurpose” USB-C ports (charging, data transfer, video output).
