30 years later, the circle has closed. During a game presentation mortal kombat 1which comes out on September 19, the site firstwefeast.com finally revealed an excerpt of the character played by Jean-Claude Van Damme.
The rejuvenated Belgian actor will lend his face to Johnny Cage, one of the main fighters in the franchise. In reality, Van Damme was always the source of inspiration for the creators of this character but they never managed to get the star’s agreement. “We tried several times,” Ed Boon, co-creator of the game, explains in the video, “this time we succeeded.”
With a sharp body and a mocking smile, this Jean-Claude Van Damme skin is inspired by his roles from the 80s, mainly that of Bloody sportreleased in 1988.
Ed Boon even tells the origins of Mortal Kombat, first released in 1992, again evoking the Belgian actor. “We called his team and said, ‘We want to make a game based on Van Damme,'” he says, acknowledging that he didn’t receive a response at the time.
“It was time to come full circle,” he continues. This Johnny Cage skin will only be available for the Premium and “Kollector” versions of mortal kombat 1which also features a character in the form of Megan Fox.
