The iPhone 15 was finally officially unveiled on September 12 by Tim Cook during his back-to-school keynote. The opportunity to make an announcement that everyone has been waiting for: USB-C will finally be integrated into the iPhone 15, replacing Lightning, a charging connection that Apple launched in 2012 with the iPhone 5.
The group is therefore taking the lead when the European Union will impose USB-C as a universal standard for all smartphones in 2024. If Apple took advantage of the keynote to make this announcement with great fanfare and point out the advantages of this connection, The manufacturer also refrained from mentioning this European regulation, which it however strongly opposed.
But Apple is also known for its additional costs that can quickly add to the bill, especially on accessories. And another surprise in the Apple Store: you can now find a USB-C to Lightning adapter for 35 euros. In other words: Apple users who want to switch to USB-C will have to pay the price.
If you want to get rid of your Lightning connectors once and for all, you can buy a power adapter on the official website for 25 euros and then a one-meter cable for 25 euros (35 euros for 2 m length). The Thunderbolt 4 Pro cable at 69 euros can also be an option if you want to benefit from data transfer of up to 40 Gbits/s and fast charging of up to 100 watts.
Obviously, nothing prevents you from doing without Apple, but the brand will not stop reminding you that it is its connectors that must be used.
