The iPhone 12 is in the eye of the storm. After France, through the National Frequency Agency (ANFR), announced its withdrawal from the Apple smartphone market due to the emission of too powerful waves, it is up to the European Union to raise the issue.
According to a spokesperson for the European Commission interviewed by a French journalist from the Associated Press, the ban on the sale of the iPhone 12 pronounced by France could apply to the entire European Union, the media igen.fr reports this Thursday, September 14.
Since France informed the European Commission of the ban on selling the iPhone 12 on its territory, the other Member States have three months to review this decision and indicate if they have any objections. At the moment, the European Commission indicates that it is waiting for the response from the member states and affirms that it has not taken any particular measures regarding the iPhone 12.
Apple challenges ANFR decision
However, if no Member State expresses reservations against France’s decision and if Apple does not implement a corrective update to reduce the SAR of the iPhone 12 as required by the ANFR, the sale of the device could be banned throughout the territory of the European Union, indicated the spokesperson for the European Commission. On the other hand, the iPhone 12 that are already in circulation would be subject to a massive recall.
A classic procedure in such a scenario specifies the European Commission. According to Reuters, Germany is already considering following in France’s footsteps. The same goes for Belgium, which asked that the SAR of the iPhone 12 and that of all Apple devices be checked, explains Le Soir.
At the moment, the American technology giant claims not to understand the ANFR’s request to withdraw sales of the iPhone 12 and questions its results. Additionally, the company notes that the iPhone 12 is certified by numerous international organizations.
