It’s a well-crafted technique that is now proliferating on TikTok. Scammers post naked photos of celebrities to try to extort internet users, all through the Temu app.
Temu, which arrived in France last April, is a giant in the Chinese market inspired by Wish or AliExpress. Very popular, especially in the United States, where it appeared a few months earlier, the application offers numerous products at ridiculous prices.
But it also offers a very effective sponsorship system to encourage consumption. The codes allow you to obtain reductions or credits which then entitle you to play games of chance. In the end, you can earn good sums of money.
Thus, to obtain the greatest number of credits, scammers do not hesitate to promise naked photos of celebrities in videos that are now flooding TikTok, reports the site Bleeping Computer. In fact, they encourage you to download Temu and enter the scammer’s referral code. The photos obviously do not exist.
Faced with this wave of scams, many users have also spread prevention messages on TikTok using the same terms as the videos.
The highlighted videos have also disappeared for the moment, probably to return better in another form. Contacted by Tech&Co, TikTok and Temu had not yet responded as of midday on September 25.
