This Thursday, September 28, the government launched the Ágora application. The latter is presented as a channel that allows citizens to discuss issues of the environment, society, etc. with the government. Currently, the app is available for download on Playstore, the Android app store. It is not yet available on Apple devices.
Thematic questionnaires
Specifically, Agora offers a series of questions on different topics. For example, on the environmental topic, the user is encouraged to answer several questions: what would encourage them to share the car, what practices would they be willing to implement to limit their environmental impact, what would encourage them to ride a bicycle, for example. It is possible to choose several answers among the proposals.
At the end of the questionnaire, you are asked to write a short response to “share your ideas.” Here the question is: “what is for you the most important measure to succeed in the ecological transition?”
Before answering the questions, each topic is described. It also reads that the minister in question “will receive the results and use them to feed the ecological planning policy coordinated by the Prime Minister” and that the minister in question “commits to following them up.”
Each topic is presented in the form of a temporary consultation. Currently, there are three consultations available: ecological transition, democracy and energy.
“Questions for the government”
A second part of the application is dedicated to “Questions to the government.” Here, each user can ask a question to the government anonymously or not (only one name is mentioned).
The questions are then ranked using a “Like” system: currently, the most popular question has received just over 150 “Like” mentions. By clicking on the question, you will be able to read a more complete text (optional), written by the user, to explain their question, as well as the mention “support this question”.
The app claims that the government will answer the most popular question directly on the platform each week. A video of Olivier Véran, government spokesperson, answering the question “why have you created this application?” is currently available.
Users can give feedback on the usefulness of the answer. The app does not specify whether each response will be in the form of a weekly video.
