Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming, the first Chromebook dedicated to cloud gaming

If Chrome OS computers don’t have a reputation for being war machines, Lenovo wants to take the opposite stance with its IdeaPad Gaming Chromebook, a powerful device at a low price for cloud gaming.

The Chromebook isn’t just a budget laptop for students. Or, at least now, for students who also want to play video games on their machine.

A paradoxical situation when you know the reputation of Chromebooks, PCs running Chrome OS, Google’s lightweight operating system. Mainly intended for office automation, Chromebooks have however progressed in their video game offerings with the gradual incorporation of the Play Store to download Android applications, then with the support of cloud gaming platforms such as Nvidia’s GeForce Now, Xbox Cloud gaming or Stadia, the future ex-service of Google.

A powerful and complete Chromebook

Lenovo is going further by finally offering a Chromebook designed to take advantage of cloud gaming. And the Chinese brand even boasts of having the first product dedicated to offering dematerialized video games.

To do this, it has provided its newcomer, the IdeaPad Gaming Chromebook, with the necessary technical specifications: a 16-inch 16:10 wide screen with an image refresh rate of 120 Hz ideal for visual responsiveness in the game , a 12-inch Intel Core i3 or i5 processor, and Wi-Fi 6E support to get the most out of your in-game internet connection in the best conditions. It also has 8 GB of RAM and a 256 or 512 GB SSD (128 GB eMMC disk for the entry-level version). The maximum autonomy announced is 11 hours.

Lenovo also brings a little gaming flair to your laptop with quad-zone RGB backlighting to customize your keyboard lighting. The latter promises fast execution and incorporates the anti-ghosting function (ability to understand the simultaneous typing of several keys, ideal for pressing a document, but also for playing with very close commands).

Cloud gaming in the best conditions

Small Chrome OS features specifically dedicated to gaming will also be offered, such as being able to quickly access your latest games on all supported platforms, pinning them for easier finding to your taskbar while taking advantage of a full-service search. engine to find the perfect game. IdeaPad Gaming also lets you enjoy GeForce Now cloud gaming in the best conditions (up to 1600p at 120 frames per second and ultra-low latency).

Lenovo is also betting heavily on the future possibilities of remote gaming with the promise of a stable and sustained connection (provided you have good Wi-Fi internet speed). A Chromebook that would be prepared for the future of video games while its proposal is still being refined.

On the design side, the IdeaPad Gaming Chromebook doesn’t give in to the ease of the big gaming PC. It maintains a rather elegant and light anodized aluminum chassis (1.82 kg). There is an FHD webcam with integrated privacy cover so as not to forget the productivity aspect that will also be devoted to it.

IdeaPad Gaming Chromebook Price and Availability

The Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming Chromebook will go on sale from 799 euros during the month of October.
