Medusa adds a new cyberattack to its history. After paralyzing the town hall of Sartrouville (Ile-de-France) last August and also attacking the town of Betton (on the outskirts of Rennes) in September using ransomware, the group of cybercriminals claimed a new victim on October 23 in Normandy. Discovered the site of Numerama.
Resident identification documents
Located in Manche, the Marigny-le-Lozon nursing home was not paralyzed, but Medusa put pressure on it by publicly revealing files containing, in particular, internal administrative documents and residents’ identity documents. In exchange, the cyber attackers demand payment of a ransom of $100,000.
Medusa is not its first attempt and uses a well-defined modus operandi: once its victim’s system has been infiltrated – especially through phishing – the hackers seize all sensitive information, block its access and demand the payment of a ransom. within a certain period. On the hacker group’s website we can see that the Normandy nursing home has one week to pay the requested amount.
Please also note that the attack claimed on this site refers to a nursing home located in Trun (Orne), but the files shared refer to the one in Marigny-le-Lozon.
