Tiktok tests 15-minute videos to record on YouTube

Therefore, the duration of Tiktok videos increases from 15 seconds to 15 minutes. The social network seeks to gain ground on the YouTube video platform.

Videos are getting longer on Tiktok. After increasing the duration of its videos to 10 minutes, the Chinese social network is now testing a 15-minute version. Matt Navarra, a social media specialist and consultant, pointed this out in the Meta app, Threads.

Currently, only a handful of creators are affected by this new feature, which could roll out in the coming months. For Tiktok, the idea is to compete directly with YouTube and, therefore, attract content creators more familiar with long formats.

But users of the application have adapted their content to increasingly longer formats, sometimes offering “series” of several videos labeled in parts, a practice that is destined to change as the length of the videos increases.

Youtube in the viewer

Initially, the app only offered very short 15-second videos. Little by little, the limit was increased to one minute, then to three and finally to ten, from March 2022.

Tiktok has already been testing videos in horizontal format since the end of 2022. A radical change with respect to the nature of the application, which has focused everything on vertical scrolling, very popular since its implementation.

On the contrary, YouTube launched Shorts in 2021, a very short video format, designed to compete with Tiktok. In July 2023, the platform assured that two billion users watched this format, thus prevailing neck and neck with Tiktok. YouTube is one of the last bulwarks against the hegemony of Tiktok, which has already supplanted Instagram in terms of popularity among young people.
