Increase everyone’s productivity, even creative people. This is the challenge that Microsoft has set itself. To achieve this, the computer giant announced on October 12, during its fall conference, the integration of Dall-E 2 within the new application of its Office suite, Microsoft Designer.
A service that will soon be available online
Powered by OpenAI, Dall-E 2 is an AI-based image-to-text generator. With this tool, the graphic design application Microsoft Designer will be able to generate “design ideas”. The company’s goal is to help creators fight blank page syndrome, says ArsTechnica.
Beyond the application, Panos Panay, a Microsoft product manager, explained that the creation tools will soon be available for free access on the Internet. Dall-E 2 will thus be accessible through the company’s Bing search engine and Edge browser. A beta version is now available online for registration in order to collect first impressions from users.
Since its appearance, Dall-E technology has been the subject of controversy. Using deep learning, the technology draws on millions of images found on the internet to generate its proposals. The only problem is that the technology does not require the consent of the artists to analyze their works. In addition, in fact, social prejudices are reproduced, such as racism or sexism, as pointed out by Ars Technica. Microsoft claims to work with OpenAI to prevent inappropriate results.
