The communication equipment of the firefighters and the police date back to the 90s, the government has promised to renew them by providing them with new functionalities.
Announced by Emmanuel Macron in 2017, the “Radio Network of the Future” will allow agents equipped with 4G and 5G to communicate instantly between the field and command rooms. The network brings new functions such as video calls, live position sharing or sending electrocardiograms. This device will affect 300,000 users.
The total cost of the program amounts to 2,000 million euros, all financed by the orientation and programming law of the Ministry of the Interior, currently under debate in the Senate.
Substantial public market
Construction of the future network begins in September 2022, the Interior Ministry announced in a press release. The test phases will be carried out for 19 months before an operational start-up in 2024. This development “will be applied for the celebration of the Olympic Games in Paris”, in 2024, assured the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, during a news conference. “We all remember the message about the importance of staying on schedule,” Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury replied, AFP reports.
The manufacturers have won this public contract estimated at 750 million euros. Thus, Bouygues Telecom, Airbus, Orange, Atos and Capgemini are responsible for the deployment and management of the network.
