Which cheap indoor security camera to choose?

The indoor camera has become a key purchase to secure your home. But prices can skyrocket quickly. Here is a guide of good references to equip yourself without breaking the bank.

Leave home with peace of mind and keeping an eye on your interior at all times. Now it is a dream that has become a possibility thanks to connected objects. The market for surveillance cameras has developed extensively for several years, with devices with multiple possibilities and prices that can range from single to quadruple.

Some security cameras can alert home occupants directly to suspicious movements and noises in their home, allow them to speak to unexpected visitors, or set off an alarm.

If you don’t feel like spending $150 or more on higher-end models, there are much more affordable models out there, with some trade-offs, though. Summary of the best references on the market to feel perfectly safe, without breaking the bank.

Lexman inner tube

In collaboration with Leroy Merlin, Lexman here offers a wired motorized camera equipped with a motion detection and tracking system whose sensitivity can be adjusted to avoid detecting, for example, a pet. Its motorization, which can also be activated from the Enki application to track movements, makes it capable of offering a vision of 355 degrees on the horizontal axis and 180 degrees on the vertical axis. Enough to allow this camera to have no blind spots and offer a detection distance of up to 5 meters.

Remotely controllable via Wi-Fi, its video sensor produces sequences in Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels), sufficient definition in most situations. The device is also equipped with night vision and good noise detection.

It also offers a “baby care” mode in order to serve as a baby monitor and signal crying children. Finally, built-in two-way audio lets you hear what’s going on. At the same time, the presence of a microphone provides the possibility of speaking through the camera. The latter, which has a microSD slot for storing recordings, also offers a “private” mode that hides the lens when you’re home.

The Lexman camera is sold at 39.90 euros on the Leroy Merlin site.

Realme Home 360°

Quite discreet in its white plastic dress, this camera, which sports a semi-cylindrical design, benefits from a good build quality. One of the strengths of this product, which comes with a 2-meter USB cable, is its ability to offer a 360° view thanks to the motorization of the optical drive and the base. Efficient without being extraordinary, its 2 Mpx sensor, to film in 1920 x 1080 pixels, with a viewing angle of 105 degrees, offers satisfactory image quality. Despite a slight lack of detail, the camera captures the night environment well and will be able to identify objects, animals and people.

As is often the case at this price, the photosensor is the most limited. You’ll have trouble clearly identifying a face more than three meters away or hearing a person respond to you through the microphone if they’re too far away. But this is enough in small interiors. The Realme Home 360° microphone, on the other hand, is very effective at picking up suspicious noises and even detecting voices. You will then be notified by notification.

Finally, you should know that the photos and videos are saved on an SD card (not included). Furthermore, it is possible to control the camera via a smartphone from the Realme Link app.

Xiaomi Mi 360° Home Security Camera

Easy to handle, the Xiaomi Mi 360° Home Security Camera 2K benefits from full functionality with highly effective motion detection (up to ten meters) and local data storage (on an SD card) as well as on the free Xiaomi cloud. The quality of videos and photos is correct during the day. At night, take advantage of the presence of infrared vision, but it will not be easy to clearly distinguish a person from more than two meters away.

Connectable via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, this surveillance camera is capable of 360° filming. However, it does not have a motion tracking system.

Another drawback: the lack of an AC adapter. The Xiaomi Mi 360° is primarily intended for users looking for an easily accessible solution.

Tapo TP-Link Tapo C210

With a three megapixel sensor, more than its competitors on the list, this Wi-Fi camera has HD and Full HD recording quality that allows you to capture excellent images day and night in any environment within a radius of 9 meters . Tiltable and rotatable by 360 degrees, powered by the mains and equipped with a micro SD port to receive a memory card to save images locally, it is distinguished by its efficient detection system.

It is also equipped with an audible alarm combined with light effects and it is possible to create a surveillance schedule. The speaker and microphone allow remote interaction with a possible thief.

Yale Pan and Tilt

The Yale camera has the advantage of offering to scan your room both horizontally (pan) and vertically (tilt). Therefore, the field of view is very wide. The video quality is quite good and it is possible to lower it a bit if your connection is not optimal. Pan & Tilt also connects via Wi-Fi or via Ethernet cable for better recording stability.

Pan & Tilt’s strong point is to offer all possible options at a reasonable price (intercom, alarm trigger, smartphone notification, night vision, zoom, planning, camera cover, etc.). Motion detection is accurate, day or night. From the application, it is possible to control the movement of the camera, cover its sensor for privacy, chat in real time with people in the room.
