WhatsApp victim of a global blackout: instant messaging stops responding

This October 25, many Internet users lament a failure of WhatsApp, Facebook’s encrypted messaging service.

Can’t communicate with your correspondent on WhatsApp anymore? You are not alone. This morning of October 25, thousands of Internet users, in France, but also in Europe and around the world, lament the difficulties in using Facebook’s encrypted instant messaging application.

At 9:17 am, the French version of the Downdetector site, which lists blackout reports, posted a tweet evoking these difficulties. A technical problem was also reported on all foreign versions of the site.

On Twitter, thousands of messages evoke the impossibility of sending a message on WhatsApp. They come from highly followed accounts, including in Turkeybut also in kenya either in India.

According to reports listed by Downdetector, WhatsApp users are having trouble sending messages, but also logging into the app, both on mobile and web versions. For now, Facebook, the victim of a historic outage a year ago, has yet to publicly discuss the situation.
