Haland or Halland. The first is the name of a footballer, the second that of a Swedish region. Apart from the similarity in their spelling, nothing seems to connect the Norwegian player with the county in southern Sweden. However, Erling Haaland’s sporting performance runs the risk of making the internet province disappear.
An open letter to end any confusion
A simple search confirms it. Upon entering Halland, the region, Google instantly requests that you “correct” your entry to redirect to Erling Haaland. Both on Instagram and Twitter, the footballer also appears at the top of the searches.
This phenomenon worries Jimmy Sandberg. And for good reason, as director of Visit Halland, the Swedish county tourist office, he makes an effort to promote his region. Faced with the bad spelling of football fans, he decided to write an open letter to end the confusion, reports the BBC.
Hammer the difference between the two names
As the only weapon, the tourism manager can only appeal to football fans to show more attention when posting something about the player. Especially since since his signing for the Manchester City club, a true phenomenon surrounds the Norwegian with very outstanding performances.
Jimmy Sandberg therefore insists on the difference between the two names. “Halland, with one ‘a’ and two ‘l’s, is an amazing region. Haaland, with two ‘a’s and one ‘l’, is an amazing player,” he wrote in his post.
To conclude his letter, the director of Visit Halland remains true to his work. Not without humor, he thus invited Haaland to visit the Halland.
