Elon Musk may have gone too far. Since October 19, the billionaire owner of Tesla, Starlink and X promised to offer one million dollars a day to one of the signatories of a petition in favor of Donald Trump.
Supporting the Republican presidential candidate, Elon Musk, is not his first success in this area, but this new operation may lead to legal problems. According to CNN and the Philadelphia Inquirer, the city attorney decided to prosecute the contractor.
“An illegal lottery”
For Larry Krasner, Elon Musk would not have respected the lottery law in the state of Pennsylvania, in particular because the winners would not have been selected “by chance”, contrary to what he had promised. According to the prosecutor, the winners were seen in meetings held by Donald Trump.
Among the nine winners, four would be from Pennsylvania, while no winner would have been announced in the October 23 drawing: “It is a lottery, but above all it is an illegal lottery,” explained Larry Krasner.
Once again, the prosecutor points out that participants must provide personal information and, above all, make political commitments to have a chance of winning, which is also not permitted by local legislation.
Furthermore, to access this petition, the signer had to have a sponsor and live in one of the seven key states in which the polls between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are closest.
On October 24, it was the US Department of Justice that warned Elon Musk in a warning letter.
