If Apple periodically announces its intention to diversify the video game offering on Mac, we cannot say that the manufacturer offers many titles. However, it was able to count on the motivation, in exchange for financing, from some publishers such as Ubisoft (Assassin’s Creed Shadows), Larian (Baldur’s Gate 3) or Capcom (resident Evil).
A newcomer will soon be added to the catalogue, it is Cyberpunk 2077. Developed by CDProjekt RED, the title has been available for PC since December 2020.
After a chaotic launch, the game received numerous corrective updates as well as an expansion, Phantom Freedomthat relaunched it in the hearts of the players.
Only compatible with Apple M chips
Four years after the PC version, we will soon be able to play Cyberpunk 2077 on your Mac, as long as you have an Apple Silicon machine, that is, with an M1, M2, M3 or M4 chip.
Scheduled for early 2025 on the Mac App Store, the port will be automatically delivered with its extension and various bonuses linked to the “definitive” edition released in late 2023 for PC, Xbox Series and PS5. Players who already own the game through Steam, Epic Games Store, or GoG will be able to access the Mac version at no additional cost.
This Mac port promises to be very ambitious in any case, as CDProjekt RED reveals support for several technical innovations, in particular “path tracing”, which offers high-level graphics, but also image generation, as well as spatial audio to enjoy with Apple headphones. All thanks to the use of the company’s development tools, the Metal API.
This announcement comes as Apple has lifted the veil on its new Macs since Monday, October 28. Thus we saw the arrival of the Mac mini, the iMac and, this Wednesday, the Macbook Pro, all equipped with an M4 chip (or even M4 Pro or M4 Max). Enough to prepare yourself to run a historically very demanding game, in particular to ensure you benefit from the best graphics.
