70 million users: Netflix’s ad-supported subscription is increasingly attractive

Offered at a price of 5.99 euros, the “Standard with advertising” formula already has 70 million users, compared to 40 million last May.

Quite an increase. In six months, Netflix gained 30 million subscribers with its “Ad-Supported Standard” formula. On the occasion of the second anniversary of this subscription, the streaming giant announced this Tuesday, November 12, that it had reached 70 million subscribers with its formula that includes advertising.

Offered at 5.99 euros per month, this offer, which is the cheapest on the platform, had already attracted 40 million users between November 2022 and last May. It also represents 50% of all new subscriptions in the countries where it is available, Netflix also indicated.

An affordable offering compared to expensive formulas.

The success of the “Standard with advertising” formula is not really a surprise. Not only is it the cheapest offer, but its price has not changed since its launch, unlike other subscriptions offered by the platform.

Added to this is the elimination of the cheapest advertising-free offer. Offered at 10.99 euros per month, the “Essential” subscription is no longer available in France since last July, as in other countries. Users can thus choose between the subscription with advertising and two more expensive plans: “Standard” at 13.49 euros per month and “Premium” at 19.99 euros per month.

This announcement comes a few weeks after Netflix’s third quarter results presentation. As of October, the streaming service is pleased to have 282.7 million subscribers, who spend an average of two hours a day on its platform.
