A one-hour training course to equip teachers with essential knowledge about artificial intelligence. This is the bet of OpenAI, which published this Wednesday, November 20, a “guide” for teachers in the United States.
In partnership with nonprofit Common Sense Media, the creator of ChatGPT aims to help K-12 students use their chatbot and other tools in the classroom with this training. Presenting “the fundamentals of artificial intelligence [et] of generative AI”, also explains how to use ChatGPT “safely and efficiently”.
“First promising results”
In other words, OpenAI and Common Sense Media want to help teachers better understand AI and its chatbot so they can use these types of tools safely at school.
Before offering this training, which is free, the two partners tested it in almost a dozen school districts and reported having obtained “promising first results.”
“We are just in the early stages of adopting AI in K-12 schools, and it will take all of us – teachers, technologists and organizations – to work together to make this technology useful for teachers and improve school outcomes. student learning,” Leah Belsky, vice president and general manager of education at OpenAI, said in a statement.
The launch of this training is the first step in a broader partnership between the creator of ChatGPT and Common Sense. Announced last January, its goal is to “develop AI guidelines and educational content for parents, teachers and young people.”
However, this training should not appeal to everyone. While some teachers encourage their students to use ChatGPT and AI, others are against it. A few months after the launch of the OpenAI chatbot, some schools even temporarily banned it.
