American shoppers used their mobile phones, laptops, desktops and other devices to make an estimated $10.8 billion worth of online purchases during Black Friday, according to an updated tally from Adobe Analytics.
That spending increased 10.2%, according to Adobe, which tracks devices that use its software to enable more than 1 billion visits to U.S. retail sites.
Black Friday, the day after the US Thanksgiving holiday, marks the official start of the holiday shopping season for retailers and competition has intensified among retailers to win over all the discount-seeking shoppers.
The rise in online shopping potentially favors e-commerce giants like Amazon.com and Walmart. Walmart, which operates 4,700 stores in the United States, has invested heavily in store-to-home deliveries during the holiday season to boost e-commerce.
