Certification: Twitter goes back and creates an “official” badge for personalities

Despite the promise of a paid certification for everyone, the social network will distinguish the accounts of personalities and those of people subscribed to Twitter Blue.

The promise was perhaps too good. In the latest Twitter update, the platform once again highlighted its new monthly subscription at $7.99 per month. Elon Musk’s first big decision at the head of the social network, this new version of Twitter Blue had to guarantee obtaining the famous certification.

Distinguish between subscribers and officials

In reality, there will be a distinction between anonymous Twitter Blue subscribers and personalities. Esther Crawford, a product manager within the company, announced the creation of an “official” badge. This acronym will be placed under the identifier of a user to guarantee that the account is actually owned by the indicated person. This is one of the main reasons for the existence of certification.

This new element of differentiation is similar to the rest of the labels that Twitter already offers. This option allows professional accounts to show their activity, for example. But most of them were previously applied directly by the platform, as specified your support center. No indication is given at the moment about the moderation that the company will put in place with respect to these mentions. They contextualize certain accounts, in particular those belonging to or affiliated with a State, or even automated profiles.

Twitter’s new honor will be given to government accounts, business and business partners, media and journalists, and public figures. In short, the “official” label has everything from the verification of accounts that the blue badge promised before the arrival of Elon Musk.
