Launched in early 2017, Xbox Game Pass has revolutionized the relationship gamers have with and purchase of video games. A monthly subscription system offers many advantages: a wide catalog of titles, the possibility of playing online, obtaining exclusive content, but also the choice of the medium in which to play thanks to games in the cloud.
What is?
Xbox Game Pass is a subscription service that provides unlimited access to a catalog of games, both on console (Xbox One or Xbox Series) and on PC with Windows 10 and Windows 11. It has more than 300 games available, from the latest new home (Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, Gears of War…), but also those of industry giants such as Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Activision, Bethesda and many others. Older games (Xbox 360, Xbox One) are also available.
The strength of the service is also offering hundreds of independent games which therefore provide an invaluable showcase. New games are added to the offer every month.
The games can be downloaded on consoles or PC, but they can also be played in streaming, without downloading (cloud gaming). Just launch them and it’s up and running right away, whether you have a next-gen or older console, low-power or next-gen PC.
Thanks to the power of Microsoft serversXbox Game Pass also allows you to play games on your smartphone or tablet in the cloud, over Wi-Fi or a 4G/5G connection (watch out for data usage!) and possibly using a controller connected via Bluetooth or Touch controls on the screen.
A part of Fortnite (available for free) started on Xbox Series X you can continue on the subway on your smartphone and even resume afterwards on a compatible Samsung connected TV (2020-2022 release). The two companies have partnered to integrate the Xbox Game Pass app directly into the device’s menu. Just sign up for a subscription (or play the free games offered as Fortnite) and connect a controller or keyboard and mouse to start playing.
The Xbox Game Pass starts at 9.99 euros per month to access the entire catalog on consoles or PC (a selection of specific games from the catalog is offered + EA Play games).
Microsoft also offers the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate package at 12.99 euros per month (first month at 1 euro). It allows you to play on consoles and PC, but also in the cloud on compatible smartphones, tablets, web browsers or televisions. Includes access to EA Play (libraries of the publisher’s best titles, including some recent games), the ability to play multiplayer on consoles, and 4 Gold games offered each month.
