The American giant goal was launched in the European Union on Thursday its generative assistant of artificial intelligence (AI), goal AI, which will be offered gradually in all its applications (Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp), more than a year after its launch in the United States. “It took us longer than expected to deploy our AI technology in Europe, because we continue to sail through a complex European regulatory system, but we are happy to have finally reached it,” said the company in a press release.
Presented in the United States in September 2023 and then it was generalized in April 2024 in all group applications, goal AI is a generative tool that answers user questions by generating texts and images, such as chatgpt of its OpenAi competitor. It also has access to Internet search engines. Therefore, it allows to “deepen news subjects or get help for a tutorial”, but can also help plan a trip.
Available in six languages
Until now, Meta had suspended its deployment in the EU, claiming to lack visibility regarding the interpretation of the European authorities of the various laws that supervise new technologies, such as the General Regulations for Data Protection (RGPD) and those of digital markets and AI. His CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, had punished in a column last summer, signed with the spotify CEO Daniel Ek, a European regulatory framework “fragmented” to “inconsistent implementation” that “stopped innovation and developers.”
After many negotiations with regulators, goal finally offers European consumers an interface focused on text generation, without an image unlike the versions available in the United States and in non -European countries. Another important point: goal AI, which will be available in six languages, has not been trained in European user data. Meta intends to deploy its assistant in 41 European countries, including France and Germany, as well as 21 European territories abroad, gradually in the coming weeks.
Zuckerberg wants to overcome one billion users in 2025
Like the other Silicon Valley giants, he made a priority and plans to invest between 60 and 65 billion dollars this year, largely in data centers, servers and network infrastructure, essential for the development of this technology. “I hope that an IA assistant will exceed one billion users this year and, for me, it will be a goal AI,” said Mark Zuckerberg by presenting his company’s annual results at the end of January.
Currently, Meta claims 700 million active users per month for its assistant, which should become a complete application in the United States, according to several US media, to compete directly with Chatgpt, Gemini de Google or Claude d’Asthrope.
