Apple presented the new ranges of its flagship products at its annual conference on Wednesday, September 7. Star of the brand, the iPhone was obviously the most anticipated product. Unsurprisingly, therefore, the 2022 vintage will be called the iPhone 14 and will benefit from four versions: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
As anticipated, the small iPhone model, which appeared with the 12 series, is left out. The range now consists of two classic versions (6.1 and 6.7 inches) and two Pro versions (also 6.1 and 6.7 inches). 6.7 inches). For the first time, they won’t all have the same processor: only the Pro range features the new Apple-designed A16 chip. So the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are still based on the A15, which we’ve already seen in previous iPhone 13s.

Apple takes advantage of this new vintage to review the design, specifically of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. After being reduced last year, the black notch that houses the front camera and Face ID facial recognition sensors has been redesigned and is now dynamic.
Called “Dynamic Island” (“Dynamic Island”, in French), the notch will change according to the notifications in a fluid way. Background apps will appear there and make it easy, for example, to use an app during a call. iPhone 14 Pro now also benefits from “Always On” mode: even when it’s turned off, the lock screen will be able to display information.

The iPhone 14 camera gets some new features in its camera. The rear camera still has a 12-megapixel sensor, but with a larger aperture and better stabilization. It allows 49% better quality of photos in low light than the iPhone 13. The front camera also benefits from an improvement. Video stabilization has also been improved and works well even in the midst of action.
But the biggest improvements in photography should affect the two Pro versions, which now feature a 48-megapixel sensor for more detailed shots. The “ProRAW” mode, dedicated to experienced photographers, is also improved.
Apple promises significant improvements in low light environments, with a two to three times increase in brightness in shots. The other two cameras are still there: a camera module dedicated to close-ups (zoom x3) and an ultra-wide-angle module.
Strong increase in prices
Unsurprisingly, Apple is raising the price of its iPhones in the euro zone. It will cost 1,019 euros for the iPhone 14, compared to 1,169 euros for the iPhone 14 Plus. The iPhone 14 Pro starts at 1,329 euros, compared to 1,479 euros for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The iPhone 14 will be available from September 16. The 14 Plus will be available from October 7. The Pro versions will be on pre-order on September 9th and on sale on September 16th.
Please note that the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro it could be the last to ship a Lightning port, Apple’s “home” chargers. While the European Union has imposed the universal charger from 2024, specifically the USB-C that already equips Android mobiles, Apple should adapt its devices next year.
