Microsoft prohibits its employees from using Chinese Deepseek

China Depseek is prohibited in Microsoft. The company fears that you use the data of its employees for the benefit of the Chinese government.

Again, Depseek raises concerns. After being suspended in certain countries such as South Korea, the application associated with China is now prohibited for Microsoft employees. Brad Smith, current president of the company, confirmed to the US Senate that AI is not available at the Microsoft store.

According to Techrunch, the announcement of such banishment in public is the first for Microsoft. Like many countries and organizations before the company, several fears have motivated the implementation of this boycott. At his audience, Brad Smith significantly evokes the risks “of the data returned to China and the type of content created by the application associated with Chinese propaganda,” says Reuters.

A promising but feared

Although it is subject to multiple controversies, the AI DEPEEK experienced an immense impact when it was revealed in January 2025. It offered responses of responses that rivaled American giants such as Chatgpt or Gemini. In addition, China uses a much lower calculation power compared to its competitors, which requires less energy when it generated an answer.

However, people who tested the tool emit some doubt about their objectivity. On sensitive subjects about the Xi Jinping government, AI systematically aligned with Chinese propaganda. Example with the persecution of the Uings people: when a question is asked about this issue, Censorship any answer.

At the same time, the use of data sent to AI is a risk factor taken seriously by Western organizations. Deepseek stores user data on servers in China. Nothing excludes that they can exploit them for the benefit of the Xi Jinping government.

The relationships between Microsoft and Deepseek were well committed. The American giant announced in January the integration of the Deepseek R1 model into its Ai Foundry and Github platforms. However, this version of AI had been modified by Microsoft teams.

This prohibition becomes effective in Microsoft, but could be generalized in all the United States. In April 2025, the Trump government, already very hostile to China, thought of a total proscription of the Deepseek application in the country. However, no official announcement has been formulated to date.
