France occurs “three months” to “mobilize its European partners” in a “European agreement” binding social networks to verify the age of adolescents who use them, in the absence that the government will take the sanctions, said Minister Clara Chappaz in the gallery on Sunday.
In June 2024, Emmanuel Macron spoke about the prohibition of the telephone before the age of 11 and social networks before 15 years, after having received, two months before, the expert work on the impact of the exhibition of young people to the screens.
“On European scale, we have (…) a frame of reference action: the regulations on digital services (Digital Services Law, Editor’s note),” Clara Chappaz continues. “But you have to go further to strengthen their scope, so that it forces social networks not to accept the creation of accounts without age verification,” he adds.
The minister “gives three months to mobilize our European partners in a simple line: age verification as imperative.”

“My work is today to gather a coalition, with Spain, Greece and now Ireland, to convince the European Commission,” he adds.
To the question of whether the government could go so far as to take sanctions, it replies: “Yes, as proof, look what we have done in pornographic sites.”
“Since the beginning of March, Arcom (the French Digital Gendarme, an editor’s note) has begun to block sites that do not comply with French legislation. They must verify that Internet users are over 18 years old,” said Clara Chappaz.
“If they (the platforms, the editor’s note) do not configure solid age verification solutions, are sanctioned. Tomorrow, I want it to be the same for users of social networks under 15 years.”
Spain presented in June 2024 a law that prohibits access of children under 16 years of social networks.
