This September 8 opens the sixth edition of ZEvent, a charity event created and led by Adrien Nougaret, known by the nickname of ZeratoR on the Twitch platform where he has 1.4 million subscribers. Since its creation in 2016, ZEvent has seen donations skyrocket year after year. During the last edition, the event raised more than 10 million euros for the Action Against Hunger association.
• What is ZEvent?
During the ZEvent, dozens of streamers gather to participate in different activities, such as video games, board games, singing, drawing… All animations and activities are welcome to collect donations. At the same time, all Internet users can watch them live and interact with streamers.
And to encourage listeners to donate, streamers offer, in addition to animations, “donation goals”, donation goals. After a certain sum, they promise to achieve a goal, often amusing.
For example, after receiving €100,000, political streamer Jean Massiet offers to “rewrite the constitution for Dummies.” The player Alex DFG offers, for 80,000 euros, to do “a one man show on stage”, while the streamer Ultia offers, for 10,000 euros, “to play a video game barbie saves the animalsOther objectives revolve -among other things- around unlikely foods, Lego constructions or karaoke.
• Who is paid the money collected?
This year, the donations collected will go to five different associations: Sea Shepherd, Time for the Planet, League for the Protection of Birds, WWF and The SeaCleaners. These five associations work for the environment. This is the first edition in which several associations will be able to benefit from the donations collected, which will be distributed equally.
Initially, it was the GoodPlanet association that was selected. However, financed by BNP Paribas and a partner of companies such as Total Energies, the association has been accused of green wash by many netizens. GoodPlanet eventually withdrew from the event. As a result of this controversy, the organization proposed to Internet users to vote between 22 different associations.
• Who participates in the ZEvent?
57 streamers are participating in the event. Most of them are there every year, well known by the public accustomed to the Twitch universe. More generally, we find youtubers, streamers, professional gamers and even artists (including Alain Chabat for this 2022 edition).
The event is streamed live on attendees’ Twitch channels. It will begin on Friday, September 9 at 6:00 p.m. and will continue until the 11th, without interruption.
