War is hard between video platforms. But YouTube was able to get his game out of the game by promoting the number of views of his shorts (short vertical formats from the site). In June 2025, around 200 billion daily opinions reached according to Neal Mohan, the YouTube chief.
Faced with this impressive figure, Tiktok is pale. According to the latest communicated statistics, the Chinese social network accumulates one billion opinions daily. This would imply that YouTube shorts generate 200 times more viewed than videos published on Tiktok.
The rise of YouTube shorts
In the space of almost five years, shorts have been a dazzling success. Throwed in France in July 2021, the short vertical format of YouTube was implemented with the objective of the Tiktok competition, which exploded during confinement.
Since its launch, YouTube Shorts has continued to gain popularity. In the third quarter of 2024, the social network announced that these short videos reached 90 billion visits per day. This figure has more than duplicated in less than a year. In France, the shorts generated 200 million visits per day in 2024, according to a YouTube press release.
With 200 billion daily views, this would mean that all 2.7 billion YouTube users analyze around 75 shorts per day, an unrealistic figure. Then we must be interested in the count of counting views in the YouTube shorts since April 2025. Keep in mind that it is not mandatory to see the entire video, a single second visualization is considered a view.
The display of tiktok hindered
At the same time, Tiktok is in a complicated pass since a large number of Western countries want to limit their influence. In the United States, the Government demanded that the Chinese platform sell its American branch to an American buyer. The total prohibition of the platform in the country has been repeatedly postponed by President Donald Trump. On June 30, 2025, the latter announced that he had found a buyer.
In France, Tiktok is the subject of a parliamentary research commission to study the psychological impact of the platform on children and adolescents. This commission could result in better supervision of the platform for users under 18. As part of this study, YouTube was also auditioned.
