Faced with external influences, Brussels remains firm. According to Reuters, the European Union intends to continue the implementation of the Act Law in accordance with the dates established by the text. The latter comes to supervise the display of artificial intelligence in all member countries.
This is a firm response to the various organizations that for several months have been trying to delay the implementation of the text.
A request for persistent postponement
The doubt about a possible delay began to establish itself after several technological companies tried to negotiate a postponement of several years. Several American giants in the AI sector, such as Google or Meta explained, to see act as a threat to innovation in AI in Europe.
On July 3, around forty European bosses jointly signed a letter to the commission that also requested a moratorium on Act. Among the signatories, we find the French bosses Arthur Mensch (Mistral), Patrick Pouyanné (Totalgies), Guillaume Faury (Airbus) or even Alexandre Bompard (Carrefour).
“I have seen, in fact, many reports, many letters and many things that have been said about Act,” said Thomas Regnier, spokesman for the commission, during a press conference.
Progressive implementation
The Act Law has continued its deployment since February 2025 and the laws that compose it are gradually applied according to a specific calendar. The objective is to provide countries and companies with time to adapt to new regulations.
The next deadline of the text is established for August 2, 2025. It imposes on companies that develop “AI for general use” (or gpai as chatgpt, gemini or grok) greater transparency compared to its model. Therefore, they must evaluate the risks, provide technical documentation and specify the training data of their algorithm.
