Fires, stones aircraft … Israeli and Palestinian settlers compete in a town in the West Bank

While the young Palestinians wanted to expel several Israeli settlers in a hill in the town of Sinjil when lighting fires, Israeli settlers have brought back creating a fire and throwing stones.

Dozens of Israeli and Palestinian settlers met this Friday, July 4 in a town in the occupied West Bank, where a walk would take place after the recent settlers in Palestinian lands.

AFP journalists saw residents and activists who began to parade, before the arrival of the settlers in a hill in the town of Sinjil was reported.

The young Palestinians approached to chase them, lighting fire at the foot of the hill, but the settlers threw stones at them.

Palestinian local sources told AFP that the settlers also lit a fire. Then several vehicles from the Israeli army arrived, and the soldiers fired in the air so that the Palestinians return to the village.

The settlers “attack the peasants”

According to Anwar al -Ghafri, lawyer and member of the Municipal Council of Sinjil, such clashes are not uncommon, but they have intensified in recent days in this part of the West Bank, territory occupied by Israel since 1967, north of Ramallah.

“A group of settlers, with the support and approval of the Israeli army, encourage and lead the attacks against the land,” said the elected official of the AFP. “They attack the peasants, destroy cultures and prevent people from going to their lands,” he accused. The settlers involved in the clashes were not accessible to express themselves.

Israeli authorities recently erected a fence that separates from the Sinjil sectors of Route 60, which crosses the Palestinian territory from north to south, taken by the Palestinians and the settlers.

Mohammad Ashour explained to the AFP that it is near high isolating its village, such as other Palestinian locations where Israel has recently built Gates that control access.

“Sinjil suffers a lot from this wall,” denounced this 52 -year -old Palestinian, deplorating that “settlers have the right to come to Sinjil” while the trips of the inhabitants are limited.

For violence since October 7

This week, an attack of Jewish settlers against Israeli soldiers in the West Bank caused a fuss in the political class in Israel.

Since the beginning of the Gaza War in October 2023, violence has shot in the West Bank.

At least 947 Palestinians, including many combatants, were killed by Israeli soldiers or settlers, according to the Palestinian authority.

At least 35 Israeli, civilians and members of the security forces were killed in Palestinian attacks or in Israeli military raids, according to Israeli authorities.
