Have users violated Instagram rules regarding the sexual exploitation of children? In any case, this is what your parent company, goal. As the BBC reports, several accounts have been banished from the social network for this reason, in recent months.
Among these, David, who lives in Scotland. His Instagram account was suspended on June 4, because, according to Meta, he did not respect the rules of the community on sexual exploitation, abuse and nakedness of children. The same day, David appealed, without success. Worse, his Instagram account later permanently disabled, as well as his Facebook and Messenger accounts.
“Extreme stress”
David is far from being the only one in this case. He discovered a thread about Reddit, in which many other users complain about having erroneously banished Instagram for the sexual exploitation of children.
“I lost hours of sleep, I experienced extreme stress and felt isolated. It was horrible, not to mention such accusation over my head,” he added.
Unjustified banished in Aboundon
Like David, many users, in France as in other countries, have seen their accounts deactivated on Instagram in recent months. A situation that bothers them because the social network does not provide any justification, but also because, as they say, they have not violated any rule.
For them, the manager of these suspensions or unjustified discomfort is artificial intelligence. As a goal, he recently reminded the BBC, his moderation uses a combination of human and technological resources, including AI, to identify and eliminate accounts that break their rules.
But the company never admitted that this wave of suspensions was linked to this automated operation. At the end of June, he only recognized a problem after The unjustified exile of the groups on Facebook, guarantee work in a solution and without providing other explanations.
What happens if your account is prohibited?
If your account is suspended, you can call it. As Instagram indicates on the page of your dedicated assistance center, simply open the application, then enter your username and password, before following the instructions shown on the screen if your account is disabled.
But in most cases, this does not allow us to recover their account, that the signatories of a petition launched on May 22 criticize. Available to “hold the goal responsible for accounts erroneously,” to date has signed up to 28,000 people.
They also criticize the company for not offering any human contact for calls. “There is no telephone assistance (…) and automated responses do not offer real help,” reads the request.
With it, the signatories call, among other things, the company to correct its AI moderation system to reduce unjustified suspensions and restore all accounts erroneously deactivated this year. Sign this request could push the goal to act and help him recover his account.
