Belkin ends their objects connected to Wemo: users asked to throw everything

The manufacturer of connected objects will finish its range of connected objects for the house. Its users can no longer operate.

Despite a booming market, Belkin throws the towel. The company that manufactures loaders and accessories for certain products (such as the iPhone), will finish its range of objects connected to Wemo.

This is a “difficult decision”, writes Belkin, who wants to “concentrate (their) resources in other aspects of (its) activity.” A difficult decision, which will leave its customers especially in the mosaic.

Throw or recycle Cornelian’s choice

As of January 31, 2026, it will no longer be possible to use a good part of the objects connected to Wemo, including bulbs, switches and movement sensors, but also surveillance cameras. The fault, not for technical support, even if it will no longer be updated, but at the end of the servers in which Belkin’s tools and their dedicated application were executed.

Users in question will have no choice but to launch the products in question, or at best, recycle them. Belkin does not offer any reimbursements or recovery of products that become useless.

However, some objects will follow functional: those that have been configured through the Apple House application (before January 31) or that of Google, provided that it benefits from a dedicated bridge, or those used by Thread, the standardized communication network of the home automation sector.

Specifically, this only refers to five products in the range that has about thirty.

Belkin acts here the failure of its diversification strategy in home automation began in 2011 and will be forwarded in its other flagship products, including accessories.

It is not the only company that has finished its strategy in the sector. On April 28, it was Google who stopped marketing its thermostats connected nest in Europe. The research giant took the opportunity to reduce the candle in this segment, unlike Amazon, which continues to water the market of new household items.
