Malaysia decided on Monday, July 14, imposing a permit on artificial intelligence exports (AI) held in the United States. The objective? Establish an illegal trade for countries like China.
“Fill the regulatory gaps”
“This initiative is used to compensate for regulatory gaps, while Malaysia performs a deeper examination of the inclusion” of these chips to their strategic objects called, the government said.
Washington had previously expressed concern about the transmission of chips manufactured in the United States, particularly given the possibility that these sensitive components are sent to China. Last month, Kuala Lumpur said he verified the information according to which a Chinese company would omit the US restrictions in the export of advanced chips using servers with chips from the US NVIDIA and organized in Malaysia.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Chinese engineers had traveled to Malaysia in March taking hard drives that contain data to shape AI models in Malaysian data centers using Nvidia fleas. The engineers planned to take these models from AI to China, according to the American Daily.
Washington has reinforced its efforts in recent years to limit exports of art state of art to China, for fear of being used in the Chinese army and eager to preserve US domination in the field of AI.
